Please enjoy the Poems written by our Ruby Bridges Cohort. The red glare of fire bursting in the air. With that torn American flag standing right there. More than 400 years ago there was sorrow and despair. We do not want ur knees on our neck. We do not want ur foot on our back pushing us around like a chew toy. Its just different colors in a crayon box but we are still crayons. Is there other things cops dont like about black people like the texture of our hair? The idea of separating 2 colors is not fair. The same air we are breathing. Is the same smoke of the tear gas and fire. US BLACK PEOPLE ARE TIRED Written By Amelia MarieHey Black child, Do you know what you can do? You could be a leader! A leader teaches people right from wrong. Hey Black child, Do you know you can follow your dreams and make them come true? Hey Black child, Do you know you're strong but just don't know it yet? Hey Black child, If you get bullied you can stand up for yourself, you know? Don't let someone bully you. Don’t just stand there, do something about it! Hey Black child, If you don't feel loved or your family doesn't love you, God loves you and that will never change. Hey Black child, Your skin is beautiful and so are YOU! Written By Kristin ChrichlowSo today I wanted to talk about Social Justice .Do you know what Social Justice is? Social Justice is celebrating equality and fairness for ALL people. Here’s an example, imagine if a group of kids were playing together and some of the kids were not allowed to play because of the clothes they wear or the way they look. THAT'S NOT FAIR! Social Justice allows all kids to play on the same playground no matter what they look like. So now you know what it means let's talk about what is going on in the world…. IT'S NOT FAIR. So what's next? I know that we all may be kids but we can still make a difference in the world no matter how big or small we might be. So let's learn our history, let's hold up a sign and speak up when things aren't fair. .So today all i'm trying to say is never think you can’t do anything and NEVER GIVE UP. Written By Ava Williams Come to the beach where the sea is blue and little white waves come running at you. A wave comes splashing over your feet, you just stand still away from it goes. We’ll build a castle down by the sea and look for shells if you’ll come with me. Written by Maya A. EdwardsOh, lit candle you shine so bright, you shine so bright like the northern lights. You smell so good like a freshly cooked pie. You give me a relaxing mind and let all my hopes shine. Candle, oh candle, you light up my life. Despite the uncertainty your love still ignites in the hearts of the ones you treasure the most. In the midst of hard times your light gives us hope. Guide our paths in these dim times. Your sweet aroma helps to unwind my mind. Written by Sydney SterlingBLACK LIVES MATTER! We should not have to protest to get our peace. We are all equal and nothing changes it. We are all beautiful and unique in our own ways! We must keep protesting until our demands are met! We must all stay and work together as a family and unite! We are strong when we are ONE! We will Win! We will stay strong! We will Fight until the battle is WON! Written by Jaunaye Rose Connell
