On July 10th of 2016, the final five women were chosen for the 2016 Olympics. Laurie Hernandez, Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman and Madison Kocian, will all be representing the USA at the 2016 Olympics. The stories of struggle, power and conquest have been some of the largest narratives coming out of the announcement of the newly named Olympic team.

      OREO

Oreo,
It’s what they call me,
You know, white on the inside
Black on the outside.
They say this with a chuckle,
As to say I shouldn’t be offended
As if it’s not an insult
WELL IT IS
  It’s like you’re saying i’m a traitor to my own race.
So am I the Benedict Arnold of blacks?
They say “oh you’re such a white girl”
With that mocking tone.
They say I ACT WHITE
But obviously not enough to be subject to white privilege.
So stop calling me white!
  When I see people eat oreos they separate it,
Just how the separate people.
You can’t separate any parts of me
So I am not an oreo.
I am…
Fierce, strong, intelligent
And so much more
But i’m just me.
