Imagine having the words "business woman", "entrepreneur", or "CEO" on your resumè. Well, Raven Robinson, PR2Politics CEO, sure can. Robinson is an ideal role model for young African American women who dare to prove that the sky is the limit. This young black entrepreneur shows through her work that you don't have to wait to start your own business. Having established her own PR firm, which serves as effective representation for her clients, Robinson is a prime example that dreams are possible to achieve just as long as you're willing to work in order to bring them into perspective. Here's Raven's piece of the pie: What inspired the birth of PR2Politics? At 16 I had a internship with a local senator in my neighborhood. He did so many great things for the community, but I did not feel he always received the publicity he deserved for his hard work. For me Pr2Politics was a solution model to get all the great people I believed in a platform to get more exposure. Did you already have background knowledge of Public Relations and Politics before you decided to start your business? I had more of a background in politics and studied political science in undergrad, but freshman year of college I joined the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter at my college and although I did not study public relations in school I received a lot of hands on experience by participating in the club. Can you explain how PR and politics are interconnected? Public relations and politics are interconnected because just like a rapper, or author politicians are public figures. A business owner may host a launch party for their business and a politician can use that same model to celebrate the victory of an election. In order for a politician to win a campaign they have to prepare their message and get it out to people in the community through media and other platforms. Those are all services implemented in public relations. What are some business rules that you have learned while being an entrepreneur? Some business rules I have learned is always provide clear instructions on what your expectations are. Things can go left if everyone is not clear on their roles and expectations.
What advice do you have for young entrepreneurs or young people who want to embark on the entrepreneurial life? You can never loose, you can only win or learn. Sometimes young entrepreneurs become hard on themselves when things do not go their way but never see anything as a lost. Only a lesson learn, so get back up and keep on going. In what ways has PR2Politics helped you grow as a business woman and also as a person? Pr2Politics has helped me grow as a business women while giving me pride. Everyday I have something to talk about, and share that I am proud of. As a person it has helped me always want educate myself more, because others turn to me and see me as a source of inspiration. What's next for Raven Robinson, the CEO, business woman and entrepreneur? I plan to expand my workbook series. I have volume one out now, but I will like to continue to build more on various business and topics. Written by Sierra Walton
