THE CONFERENCE

​From December 15th- 17th The Dinner Table hosted 85 students from Digital Tech Arts and Cinema High School, P.S. 150 Christoper Elementary School, Mott Hall Bridges Academy, Launch Expeditionary Learning Charter School and previous Dinner Table programming for a conference.

The conference featured self-esteem building workshops, skill-building panels and community building opportunities. 

The weekend highlight was our signature Dinner event on Saturday evening and a culminating "Pink Toast Brunch" on Sunday.

RECAP: Friday and Saturday Workshops

DAY ONE: The first day of the conference kicked off with an engaging activity lead by our beloved Ms. Jade that allowed students to connect with peers from different schools, fostering a sense of community.

​A highlight of the day was the recognition of Andrea Butler, who received an award for her notable contributions and creation of Sesi Magazine, earning a standing ovation from the attendees. The conference featured insightful talks from speakers Rebecca Force and Ssanyu Lukoma, providing valuable perspectives and knowledge. The day concluded with a dynamic small career day panel and round table experience, offering students a chance to explore potential career paths and engage in meaningful discussions.

DAY TWO: The second day of the conference was a content-rich experience with a lineup of distinguished speakers including Shataya Gilstrap, Ayanna Dutton, Delaila Catalino, Ariel Pirela, Destanee Bonds, Danielle Hardy, Trishna Monplaisir, Kristina Way, Tyleah Hawkins, Tamara Dopwell, Tahirah Dutton, Sharee Hereford, Denika Desert, Javonia Smith, Latoya Lane-Milo, and Tatyana Arrington. These speakers lead workshops, panels and actives on a  diverse range of topics, delving into areas such as mental health, goal setting, navigating social media, leadership, health, and wellness, providing attendees with valuable insights and knowledge.

RECAP: Hotcombs N Sunday Dinners 

The dinner event was a heartwarming gathering that brought together students from our partner schools and past programs, fostering a sense of community and connection. Themed around "Butterflies," symbolizing the organization's entrance into a transformative era, the event was not only visually stunning but also carried a deeper meaning. Pejy Kash Events, with support from Lola Valentina, worked to create a gorgeous ambiance that added to the overall enchanting atmosphere.

Attendees were treated to  goodie bags provided by Aunt Jackie's and Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow. The Community Shero award was given to viral sensation, Jazlyn "Jazzy" Guerra for her outstanding and inspirational work as a 13 year old entertainment journalist. ​​

RECAP: The Pink Toast Brunch

The conference's culminating event, the Pink Toast Brunch, was a momentous occasion highlighted by inspiring speakers Rachel Hislop and Shari Bryant. Their encouraging words resonated with the attendees as they offered parting toasts, emphasizing the significance of self-care, setting boundaries, and establishing goals for success. The brunch not only provided valuable insights but also created a platform for program alumni to reunite with both Dinner Table staff and current participants, fostering a sense of continuity and community. Participants left inspired and excited about what's ahead for The Dinner Table in 2024.
