Overview 
Dinner Table Doc is a dedicated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that strives to empower and uplift young women of color through our workshops, programs, and partnerships. We value the trust you have placed in us and our mission. We are committed to  protecting the privacy of you, your kids, and your students. 

This Privacy Policy was written to describe how we use, share, and protect the types of information that we collect from you and your child, who may be under the age of 13 or 18, through our website, workshops or programs. Please note that we do not collect information that, on its own, directly identifies your child. We strongly encourage you to familiarize yourself not only with this privacy policy, but any other privacy policies or agreements that may govern your use of Services.

Categories of information we collect 

• Information you give to us
  
  • By accessing the Dinner Table Doc website, you agree that we may place cookies on your computer, which helps us manage your session on our site. You may opt-out of receiving cookies by adjusting your web browser settings to reject cookies. 
    
  • Visitors accessing the Dinner Table Doc website may be prompted with a banner request to sign up for events or our newsletter. When you sign up for our events or our newsletter, for yourself, your child, or your student, we may collect information you give us such as your name, address, email address, and birthdate. By entering your details and clicking “Subscribe” or a similar button, you explicitly consent to receiving our newsletter for yourself, your child, or your student. You may opt-out at any time through a provided unsubscribe link or by contacting us directly at [email protected].
    
  • Financial information is required for payment transactions when purchasing merchandise through the Dinner Table Doc website. For payment transactions, Dinner Table Doc discloses personal data with companies in the transaction processing chain, such as merchants, banks or other card issuers, card associations, debit network operators and their members. For instance, when you choose to use a payment method for the transaction (e.g. credit card, debit card, buy now pay later, or direct debit), the third party provider of your payment method will receive Transaction Data that includes your Personal Data. Our website uses encryption technology, such as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software for payment transactions, to protect financial data you input during transactions. SSL encrypts ordering information such as your name, address, and credit card number. When the letters "http" in the URL change to "https," the "s" indicates you are in a secure area employing SSL. Your browser may also notify you with a pop-up message that you are about to enter a secure area. Following a transaction, your private information (e.g., credit cards, social security numbers, financials, etc.) will never be stored on our servers.

  • When you visit the Dinner Table Doc website, we may collect additional information about how you use our website, such as the features you use and the amount of time you spend on the site. We also may collect specific information about your device and across your multiple devices, including the mobile carrier, device type, model and manufacturer, mobile device operating system brand and model, and preferred language. If you or your device experiences an error, we collect information about the error including the time it occurred, the application or features being used, and any communications or content provided to you at the time the error occurred.  
    
• Aggregated + de-identified information
  
  • We may aggregate or de-identify the information described above. This may entail stripping information of all personally identifying characteristics and sharing that aggregated, anonymized data with third parties or publishing it. This data does not personally identify you and helps us to measure the success of the website and its features and to improve your experience. We reserve the right to make use of any such aggregated data as we see fit. However, because it cannot be used to identify you, it is not subject to this policy.

How we use your information

How your information is shared with third parties

• We care deeply about the privacy of our users. We do not rent or sell your personal information to third parties for their own purposes without your consent. We share or disclose your personal information only as needed to provide our service. 
  
• We may disclose personal information if we have a good faith belief that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to (a) satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request; (b) enforce applicable Terms of Service, including investigation of potential violations thereof; (c) detect, prevent or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues; (d) protect the rights, property, or personal safety of Dinner Table Doc, our users or the public; or (e) as required or permitted by law.
  
• We do not share your child’s personal information with third parties for their own purposes or for marketing purposes. 
  
• Your data will be stored in Google Enterprise. Google Enterprise uses Google Cloud Services to protect data from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Google Cloud Services provides security features such as data encryption, as well as regular reviews of data collection, storage, and processing practices. How we protect children’s privacy

• Dinner Table Doc is committed to protecting the privacy of children who use our website and attend our events. The Dinner Table Doc website is intended to be used by children under 13 only with the consent and oversight of a parent or by a teacher or school. 
  
• We do not knowingly collect, use or share information from children under the age of 13 without verifiable parental consent or as permitted by law. This policy is in accordance with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”). 
  
  • About the collection of parent email address: Consistent with the requirements of COPPA, on any child-targeted site, or in any instance where we ask for age and determine the user is age 13 or under, we may ask for a parent or guardian email address before we collect any personal information from the child. If you believe your child is participating in an activity that collects personal information and you or another parent/guardian have NOT received an email providing notice or seeking your consent, please feel free to contact us at [email protected]. We will not use parent emails provided for parental consent purposes to market to the parent, unless the parent has expressly opted in to email marketing or has separately participated in an activity that allows for such email contact. In the event that we discover we have collected information from a child in a manner inconsistent with COPPA’s requirements, we will either delete the information or immediately seek the parent’s consent for that collection.
    
  • Verifiable parental consent over email: In the event that Dinner Table Doc wishes to collect personal information from a child, COPPA requires that we first seek a parent or guardian’s consent by email. In the email, we will explain what information we are collecting, how we plan to use it, how the parent can provide consent, and how the parent can revoke consent. If we do not receive parental consent within a reasonable time, we will delete the parent contact information and any other information collected from the child in connection with that activity.
    
  • Teacher consent in lieu of a parent: Concerning school-based activities in which Dinner Table Doc is involved, COPPA allows teachers and school administrators to act in the stead of parents to provide consent for the collection of personal information from children. Schools and teachers should always notify parents about these activities.   • About the use of children’s data: We may use children’s personal data to provide the Services in which your child is participating. This may include communicating through email about upcoming events. We may use the non-personally identifiable data we collect to improve the website and Services and to deliver a better and more personalized experience. Dinner Table Doc would retain personal data in a form which permits identification of a child for as long as necessary to provide the Services in which the child is participating, or for other business purposes such as complying with our legal obligations, resolving disputes, and enforcing our agreements. We are required by law to keep some types of information for certain periods of time (e.g., statute of limitations). Dinner Table Doc does not sell or rent children’s personal data. 
    

Parents’ Rights and Controls 

• Dinner Table Doc will not require a parent or child to disclose more information than is reasonably necessary to participate in an activity. At any time, parents may refuse to permit us to collect further personal information from their children. Parents also have the right to request access to, change, or delete their child’s personal information by contacting Dinner Table Doc at [email protected]. A valid request to delete personal information will be accommodated within a reasonable time. In any correspondence, such as via email, parents should include the child’s name and the parent’s email address along with any additional contact information such as telephone number. To protect the child’s privacy and security, we will take reasonable efforts to help verify a parent’s identity before granting access to any personal information. 
  

How we work with schools

• Dinner Table Doc works with students, teachers, and schools to provide college and career readiness through our girl-centered transformative workshops and culturally-affirming programming.​ We strive to minimize the personal data that we collect and use to protect the privacy of students.
  
• Our privacy measures include protecting any data considered an “educational record” under FERPA and personal information of students under 13 years old under COPPA. 
  

How to Access, Update, or Delete Your Personal Information 

• Users may request that some or all of the personal information collected by Dinner Table Doc be accessed, updated, or deleted by contacting [email protected]. Dinner Table Doc will take reasonable efforts and measures to accommodate each request. However, it may not be possible for Dinner Table Doc to delete information in all cases. For instance, Dinner Table Doc may be unable to delete information that has been retained in our records. 
  

Information Retention and Information Security

• The retention of information refers to the collection, storage, and management of data. All retained personal information will remain subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
  
• Dinner Table Doc may retain information which has gone through the process of de-identification.
  
• Dinner Table Doc may retain aggregated information, meaning the information connects to a group of people and there is no reasonable basis to believe that the information can be used to identify a particular individual. 
  
• Dinner Table Doc may retain data necessary to prevent fraud or future abuse and for recordkeeping purposes, operational purposes, or other legitimate business purposes. 
  
• Dinner Table Doc may retain information for the length of time necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by applicable law or regulations. Dinner Table Doc may also retain information to resolve disputes, enforce our legal agreements and policies, and if required to do so by law or regulations that are currently in effect or will become in effect after the publication of this Privacy Policy. 
  
• Dinner Table Doc takes their responsibility to protect the security, integrity, and confidentiality of information very seriously. Dinner Table Doc uses reasonable technical, administrative, and physical security measures to protect information from loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, use, modification, and destruction. Dinner Table Doc regularly reviews its security procedures to determine whether the implementation of new technology and methods is feasible and appropriate for safeguarding information. 
  
• Please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable and Dinner Table Doc cannot ensure or warrant the security of information. In the event that any information under Dinner Table Doc’s control is compromised as a result of a breach of security, Dinner Table Doc will take reasonable steps to investigate the matter and notify users of the security incident in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

• Dinner Table Doc may update this privacy policy from time to time and may notify you of any changes to our Privacy Policy by posting the revised Privacy Policy with an updated date of revision on our website.
